Jamali greets PFUJ office-bearers

ISLAMABAD, May 27: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has greeted the new office-bearers of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).

In his message to PFUJ President Ahfazur Rehman, the prime minister said: “Press in Pakistan has always played a dominant role in upholding and strengthening the democratic values.”

He expressed the hope that the newly elected office-bearers and members of the PFUJ would act as torchbearers in upholding the freedom of the press.

He said the government was taking pragmatic measures for ensuring freedom of the press and protecting the rights of working journalists.

“I assure you of all out support from the government regarding your struggle in upholding and preserving the lofty values of democracy, national integrity and cohesion,” the prime minister added.—APP
