KARACHI, May 27: Following orders from city Nazim Naimatullah Khan, the finance and planning department of the city government has transferred a sum of Rs570.25 million to the accounts of 178 union councils and 77 city councillors, for carrying out development activities in the city.

According to a city government press release, some 77 elected councillors have been provided Rs0.5 million each for development projects in their respective areas, whereas the 178 union councils would be provided Rs0.5 million after some time.

Following the transfer of Rs0.5 million to the accounts of the UCs, the overall amount for carrying out development activities would become Rs3.5 million each.

The money has been released under the Union Council Development Program, as promised by the city government in its financial budget 2002-3.

The majority of union councils and elected councillors have invited tenders for carrying out development projects in their respective areas. in some areas projects have already started.—PPI
