Germany urges US to act responsibly

BERLIN, May 26: Germany called on Monday on all countries involved in the Middle East to act “responsibly” in the campaign against terrorism, after reports the US was mulling plans to foment an uprising in Iran.

“The German government believes the danger of destabilization continues to exist in the region,” a foreign ministry spokeswoman said.

“In respect to the latest attacks, we urge all those involved in the region to act responsibly,” she told reporters.

She was responding to a question about a report in the Washington Post on Sunday that Pentagon officials were advocating trying to foment a popular uprising to topple Iran’s Islamic government.

The spokeswoman urged “all governments in the region to do everything they can to combat anything that could lead to instability.”—AFP
