Probe ordered into child’s death

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, May 26: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court on Monday, while taking suo motu action on a woman’s petition regarding the death of her child, directed the advocate general of Balochistan and the Levies’ tehsildar of the Majbo Shoori Thana to investigate the child’s death.

The petitioer said that the child had been killed by one of the uncles of her deceased husband.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, ordered to hand the four-year-old child, Feroze, to his mother after he was produced before the court.

Zarbakht Bibi — a resident of Usta Mohammad, Nasirabad district — had submitted that one of the uncles of her husband, Yar Mohammad, was holding her three children hostage.

She had also prayed the court to recover her daughter and two sons.

The court had earlier asked Yar Mohammad to appear before the court on May 8 but he had not appeared on that dated up.

On Monday, Yar Mohammad, produced the four-year-old boy before the court, claiming that the other boy had died while the 12-year-old girl had been married off to one Wazir.

But Zarbakht Bibi had contested the claim, saying that her son had been murdered while her daughter had been married against her will, saying that she was of minor age.

Meanwhile, the division bench, in another case, issued a notice to the deputy advocate general in another suo motu application of an Iraqi citizen, Mohsin Ali, who had prayed for his release, saying that he had served his 20-day imprisonment sentence but the jail authorities had kept him unlawfully for the past two and a half years.
