KARACHI, May 26: Hundreds of people, out of thousands visiting beaches of Hawkesbay, Sandspit, Paradise Point, Cape Monze, etc., fall victim to jelly fish bite while enjoying a bath or a walk along the beach.

The beaches draw big crowds of men, women and children amid sizzling heatwave in Karachi and its suburbs. The peak season appeared to be May-August period that coincides with the breeding season of ‘blue bottle’ jelly fish which strikes at the coastline in these months.

Sting of this small creature, normally not bigger than two inches, causes severe muscular pain that travels from that affected part of body to abdominal muscles.

Though the pain lasts about half an hour, the victim feels terribly confused as if he might have some serious problem. An if someone gets its sting on his left hand, he fears having a cardiac problem.

More than 260 cases of blue bottle bite were brought to the Emergency Rescue Centre (ERC) of Fire Brigade department on May 25 alone.

The fire department is planning setting up of first aid points at different locations along the beaches.—PPI
