Feature event ends in dead-heat at LRC
LAHORE, May 25: Imported filly Laser Lass and Pakistani filly Fair Play competed aggressively in trying to land the spoils in a dead-heat in the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The five to two chance Fair Play ridden by riding boy A. Aziz took to a flying start and led the field all along the 1200 metres race.
Laser Lass backed at 40 to 100 and ridden by jockey Salah-ud-Din II was a bit slow at the start but she gradually made up the lost ground and caught the leader at the finishing post. So close was the finish that even the magic-eye of the camera failed to separate them.
The race was declared a dead heat. Miracle finished third, another six lengths back while Muqaddar completed the frame. In all, 12 ran for this eighth and last event of the card.
Later Fair Play survived an objection lodged by jockey Salah-ud-Din II for pressing his mount in the straight. The objection was over-ruled by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards.
Fancied Bay gelding Kargil Tiger running true to his form spellbounded everyone present at the Race-track by his fine performance in the supporting and seventh race of the day.
Backed confidently at 40 to 100 favourite by his connections Kargil Tiger ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman beat Morning Bird easily by over two lengths. Polo Gambler and Red Rock completed the frame.
Lesser light among the riders Nazir Ahmad and A. Aziz shared the day’s riding honours by bringing home a brace of winners each.
Nazir romped home on Final Count Down and Aechoo in the opener and fifth race, respectively. A. Aziz first sailed in Burn Heart in the sixth race and then followed it up with a dead-heat victory in eighth and feature event on Fair Play.
Both the winners were sent out by trainer A. Majeed. Veteran trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar saddled two winners, Aechoo and Laser Lass.
The LRC stewards suspended riding boy Mubashar Ali for one month for his unsatisfactory riding on Las Pal Mas in the first race. They also stopped entries of Disney Land in races till the completion of inquiry ordered by them to know the causes of dismal showing of Disney Land.
