Baitul Maal detects double entries

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, May 25: Pakistan Baitul Maal has detected thousands of double entries of the beneficiaries after computerization of the Food Support Programme (FSP) record.

An official source told Dawn that after the computerization of the record, double entries in all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas were detected.

These beneficiaries had registered their names in more than one district or in the jurisdiction of various post offices in same districts, he said.

Out of more than 26,000 beneficiaries in Rawalpindi district, over 700 double entries had been detected. More than 100 beneficiaries had taken out their money from more than one post office at a time, he added.

According to the FSP project, each beneficiary was being granted Rs1,000 twice a year. Such a high number of double entries meant that the project had suffered a loss of millions of rupees, the source said.

He said the officials had sent a list of people found guilty of double registration to the post offices concerned, and also stopped further grants from the project’s fund. Replying to a question, the source said deserving beneficiaries, including poor, elderly, ill, orphans, widows and special people, would be included in the beneficiaries’ list.

However, another official source said the high number of double entries was because the beneficiaries had applied a couple of times on the call of the staff of various post offices.

He said the post offices concerned had asked the people to submit their forms again as those earlier submitted had been misplaced.
