KARACHI: MQM-H activist shot dead

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 25: An activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement was killed by unknown persons in Liaquatabad early Sunday morning.

Police said that Javed, 38, alias Nagri, a member of MQM sector committee of Liaquatabad, was visiting his parents’ house to attend a marriage ceremony in B-Area.

Some time early Sunday morning, Javed was whisked away by some unknown persons from near his house and was shot dead on the same street.

Police said the victim suffered four bullets and his body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination.

The deceased’s brother, Mohammad Saleem, lodged a first information report against unknown persons with the police.

A spokesman for the MQM said Javed had moved to Garden after receiving life threats. He was staying in Liaquatabad to attend a marriage ceremony from where he was kidnapped by some unknown persons on Saturday night. Subsequently, his body was dumped in the same locality.

He said the victimization policy was being followed against the MQM and it had been forced to keep away from participating in the NA-255 by-election in Landhi.

He said the MQM-H nominated Abid Jafri as a candidate for the seat, but the state machinery had compelled him not to run for the election.

He claimed that Abid Jafri had been forced to go home when he tried to launch his election campaign and approach the people of his constituency.
