KARACHI: Afaq accuses Home dept of partiality

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 25: Chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) Afaq Ahmad has accused government functionaries, police and office of the TPO in Landhi of running the election campaign of a component of the ruling coalition like the latter’s political allies.

In his statement faxed to Dawn on Sunday, Afaq Ahmad claimed that they had taken over his party’s offices with the support of Home department “in order to manipulate the result of NA-255 by-election in accordance with their will.” He also accused the Home department of using police and rangers even for transporting his party’s office furniture.

“Their dream to win the area would never come true as the hearts of people of Landhi beats with the Mohajir Qaumi Movement,” he declared.

He urged the ruling clique to let the people of Landhi and Korangi to express their free will and be prepared to concede defeat in the June 22 by-election.

Meanwhile, the Haqiqi candidate from NA-255, Abid Jafri, on Sunday visited different party units where families affected by the recent ‘police action’ complained of maltreatment meted out to them.

Sympathizing with the aggrieved families, Mr Jafri said: “Our leaders and workers are being sent to jail while the party’s headquarters, Bait-ul-Hamza, and unit offices have either been closed or handed over to terrorists by the police and rangers.”

He said he and his colleagues would never succumb to pressure.
