KARACHI, May 25: The administration of the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), in view of the scheduled two-day strike from Monday by 264 doctors, has made elaborate security arrangements to to maintain law and order at the Centre.

The doctors, doing their post-graduation from the JPMC, have not been paid their monthly honorarium for the last two years.

Leave of all registered medical officers and house officers has been cancelled to ensure continued service to an enormous number of patients visiting the hospital during the strike.

Seemin Jamali, Deputy Director of the JPMC, visited the Centre and reviewed the alternative arrangements for medical facilities and steps being taken to counter any problem likely to arise out of the strike.

She warned of disciplinary action against those found observing strike. She maintained that the PGs were not employees of the JPMC and had no right to enforce a strike which could result in hardship to patients.

Dr Anwer Ali, PRO of the JPMC, dispelled the impression that PGs had threatened to shut down the JPMC to enforce their strike on Monday.

Meanwhile, Dr Zahid Ali Memon and Dr Irfan Sattar of the PGs Action Committee, have held out the assurance that the strike would remain peaceful as they did not intend to create a law and order problem which could add to the miseries and increase sufferings of patients.

However, they warned that if the administration did not sort out their lingering issues, they would resort to hunger strike in front of Karachi Press Club in the next phase of their campaign.
