RAWALPINDI, May 23: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has appealed to the citizens to benefit from its ‘Relief Package’ and legalize their connections.

A Wasa official told Dawn on Friday that the package would be available from May till September. The domestic users will have to deposit Rs2,000 with the agency’s financial and revenue section as regularization charges for their connections. While, for the regularization of commercial connections, Rs5,000 will be charged, he said.

Under this package, none of the illegal connection holders will be fined or their connections snapped if they paid the above nominal regularization charges.

According to official statistics, more than 40,000 illegal connection holders had benefited from the same package, which started during the same period last year.

The officials said this time they were hopeful that maximum numbers of people would benefit from the package. But, they said, as there was a more relaxing deadline of about four months, therefore, majority of the people were expected to regularize their connections during the last few weeks of the given timeframe.

Meanwhile, Wasa inspection teams confiscated 123 illegal water suction pumps from various parts of the city, the official said.

These pumps had been confiscated from commercial and non- commercial areas including Kartarpura, Pindora, Amarpura, Arian Mohallah, Tipu Road, Dhoke Mangtal and Asghar Mall. Out of the total, 99 pumps were confiscated from domestic users, while the remaining from commercial, he said.
