KHAIRPUR, May 21: A large number of residents of Chondiko, Nara Taluka, observed a shutter-down strike and held a protest demonstration in Chondiko on Wednesday against the authorities concerned for not providing gas and potable water to the town.

The protesters started marching from the Shahi Bazaar, passed through various roads finally stopping in front of the Taluka Nazim office where they demanded that immediate relief be provided to the people of Chondiko.

They set fire on old tyres.

They demanded that civic amenities be provided in the town as soon as possible.

They also protested against locals not being provided work in the Sawan Gas Field and Qadan Wari Gas Field by the authorities concerned.

PROTESTS: A large number of people continued their protests for the second consecutive day on Wednesday in two separate areas of Khairpur district against the Hesco administration for resorting to loadshedding on a daily basis.

The residents of Bozdar Wada, Thari Mirwah Taluka, held a protest demonstration against the loadshedding, which lasted between 10 and 15 hours on a daily basis.

A shutter-down strike was also observed in the town for two hours.

The protesters told this correspondent that even during extremely hot weather when temperature reached 48 or 49 degrees Celsius, the Hesco administration was compounding the difficulties for the people by resorting to loadshedding which lasted 10 to 15 hours.

They demanded an immediate end to the loadshedding.

They threatened to widen the scope of their protest if it was not stopped soon.

STUDENTS HOLD PROTEST: A large number of students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Priyaloi, and other schools boycotted their classes in protest against the Hesco officials for resorting to a five-hour-long loadshedding on Tuesday.

The electricity remained suspended from 8am till 1pm.

HIGHWAYMEN: Some unknown highwaymen opened fire on vehicles on the National Highway at Hussainabad, Kot Diji Taluka, on Tuesday.

When a Kot Diji police mobile arrived there, the highwaymen opened fire on it also.

However, when the police retaliated they escaped immediately.
