PESHAWAR, May 21: The NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Wednesday said that the government was trying to improve the quality of education, specially in the tribal areas, bringing it on a par with other developed areas of the country.

He said this while presiding over the 28th annual meeting of the board of governors of the Razmak Cadet College Razmak here at the Governor’s House.

The cadet college, he said, was providing quality education in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and competing with other such institutions in the country, adding that it was a unique institution in this regard.

Mr Shah said that while the cadet college was still confronted by some problems, it had overcome many others during a short period of time.

The meeting, which was attended by members of the board — including Maj Gen Hamid Khan of the IGFC, additional chief secretary Jehangir Bashar, Maj Gen Mohammad Tahir GOC of the VII Div., additional secretary (finance) Hafiz Matiullah, secretary to the governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, deputy secretary (SAFRON) Maj Hamid Hasan and Maj Khatir Nadeem of the Shawal Rifles — reviewed various academic, administrative and financial matters pertaining to the college.

The college’s principal, Brig (Retd) Bashir Hussain, highlighted the salient features of the masterplan prepared for the construction of the college’s new building.

The governor, on the occasion, said that the services of a consultant should be hired to prepare and implement the masterplan.

The meeting, on the occasion, was informed the cadet college’s enrolment currently stood at 525 with an annual intake of 75 students, more than of whom belong the FATA.

Later, the meeting approved the college’s annual budget and non-developmental grants.
