Shahab IV taste defeat

KARACHI, May 19: Eastern Federal Union (EFU) with two regular pairs of Hasan Sajjad Rizvi-Zafar Zaki, Ghufran Ashraf-Shahab Khan won the week-end duplicate bridge on Sunday.

Last week EFU finished runners-up but their efforts proved more positive this time. They won weekly title with a score of 96 Victory Points.

Renewing their week-old rivalry against Shahab, EFU successfully edged out Shahab 18-12 in the opener, PSO were their next victim. EFU added 23 VPs, out of 30 and in the third round Mixed also went fighting down 20-10. In the fourth round EFU defeated Strikers 24-6, however, Attackers extended them fully, EFU lost this match 11-19.

After the first fall, Shahab-IV, made all out efforts in the next four rounds, winning 17-13 from SWEN, 24-6 from Chandna, 16-14 from Raees and 25-5 from Strikers.

Shahab-IV claimed second position with 94 Victory Points. They fielded their regular pairs of Nuri Pasha-Anwer Kizilbash, Shahab Saeed-Nasir Ahmed and Farhat.

Candyland occupied third berth with a score of 90 VPs. also winning four matches from Shamsi 18-12, SWEN 18-12, Chandna 24-6 and Raees 22-8, losing first round match to Mahmood 8-22. Hasan Askari, Khalid Mohiuddin, Mubashir Puri, Mohammad Zubair and Tehsin Gheewala played for Candyland.

Earlier in the Pair’s Movement Masood Mazhar-Zaeem Lutfi won with the excellent score of 68.25 percent followed by Iqbal Hyder-Nuri Pasha 63 and Amin Hakim-Gulzar Builal 60.32 percent.

In the second house, Abbas Hussain-Tariq Rasheed Khan emerged on top through their aggressive bidding and dummy play. They won with a 60.68 %.

Asghar Naqvi-Saleem Rizwan scored 59.28 percent and Rashid Shami-Zafar Reza scored 56 percent for lower berths.—APP
