LARKANA, May 19: A jirga held here on Sunday night imposed a fine of Rs700,000 on three police officers including the former DSP and two former SHOs after it was proved that they had killed a man, Jhando Jatoi, in the jurisdiction of the Hatri Ghulam Shah police station.
Babu Sarfraz Jatoi, general secretary of the District Bar Association, and Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi jointly chaired the jirga proceedings.
They heard both parties and announced that Jhando, a resident of the Gul Mohammed Jatoi village, was killed in a fake encounter about two months back.
DSP Aqil Ghulam Ali Brohi, Ghulam Nabi Korai and Sanaullah Hulio, the then SHOs of the Ketty Mumtaz and Hatri Ghulam Shah police stations respectively, following the killing of the villager were placed under suspension and since then had been trying to settle the matter privately.
The jirga imposed a fine of Rs700,000 on all the three police officers for killing Jhando Jatoi, injuring women and stealing property.
The fine will be paid in two instalments, Sarfraz Jatoi told this correspondent on Monday.
PROTEST: The municipal employees continuing their protest held a demonstration outside the municipal office on Monday demanding that they be paid their salaries for two months and pensions.
The president, workers union, Rasool Bakhsh Shahani, led the protest.
They later held a sit-in at the Pakistan Chowk and also demonstrated outside the press club.
