PESHAWAR, May 19: The joint action committee, representing the province’s teachers, doctors and students organisations, has expressed its concern over the government’s apathy towards resolution of their problems.

This was stated on Monday in a meeting of the NWFP’s chapter of the committee, presided over by its president Arbab Khan Afridi.

A resolution was also adopted by participants of the meeting condemning both the federal and provincial governments for not being responsive towards their demands.

Participants were told that a seminar, entitled ‘Why the Privatisation of Health and Education,’ would be held on May 21 at the Peshawar Press Club at 10:30am to debate the 11-point agenda presented by the joint action committee for the resolution of their grievances.

The meeting also decided to stage a walk in the campus of the University of Peshawar on May 29 to press the government for holding talks over the issue of the Model Universities Ordinance with stakeholders concerned.

Conceding that academic activities were being disturbed because of the ongoing protests of teachers and students but said that they had been left with no other option to convey their resentment in this regard, adding that the government was responsible for wasting the precious time of students and teachers.
