LAHORE, May 18: Punjab Revenue Minister Gul Hameed Khan Rokari has said that the government considers rehabilitation of the affectees of the Chashma Barrage as its responsibility and is making sincere efforts for fulfilling its commitment.
He was presiding over a meeting held here on Sunday on allotment of land to the people displaced by the Chashma Barrage.
The meeting was also attended by Colonies Member Javed Aslam as well as officers concerned of the Board of Revenue and the colonies department.
He directed that those affectees who had still not been allotted land for housing should be provided 10 marla plots immediately and this process should be completed as early as possible.
The minister was informed that 5.5 thousand acres had already been reserved in Bhakkar, Mianwali and Khushab districts for the affectees and more state land would be provided if required.
The minister directed the Mianwali Executive District Officer (Revenue) to complete the verification process of the cases of affectees within three months at all costs. It was also decided that the land earmarked for rehabilitation would not be allotted to others for cultivation on a temporary basis.—APP
