SIALKOT, May 18: The government is committed to improving the agro-based economy for the welfare of farmers.

This was stated by National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Hussain while speaking to a large gathering of farmers in Daallowali village, Sialkot tehsil.

He said the government had also planned various mega projects to look up the irrigations system on modern lines which would help resolve problems faced by farmers.

The government, he said, had already announced a package for the farming sector which indicated that the government was keenly interested in changing the destiny of farmers.

Adequate water supply would be ensured in canals throughout the Sialkot district so that the farmers would not have to face any problem.

Earlier, speaking as a chief guest at the “tractor keys distribution ceremony” of the National Bank here on Saturday night, the Speaker said the NBP had initiated vital steps for the promotion of agriculture sector and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

He said the move initiated by the NBP for extending facility of tractors to small growers would pave the way for bringing green revolution in the country.

Over 70 per cent population was living in the rural areas, but for some unknown reasons it had been ignored in the past, he said.

NBP president Syed Ali Raza, MNA Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and Punjab Labour Minister Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi were also present on the occasion.
