National team championship from July 25

KARACHI, May 17: Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has invited all of its affiliated units to participate in the inaugural edition of the National Team Squash Championship to be held later this summer.

A PSF spokesman said on Saturday that all the affiliated units of the PSF have been asked to send their teams to compete in the national championship to be held from July 25 to 31.

The venue is yet to be decided but it is likely that the event will be held at the Roshan Khan Squash Complex in Islamabad.

PSF President Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat gave the approval of the first edition of the national championship at the moot attended by representatives of all federation’s affiliated units.

According to the spokesman, the units invited to participate in the national team championship include the four provincial associations, PIA, Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, POF Wah, Pakistan Railways, Universities Grants Commission, Habib Bank (HBL) and United Bank (UBL).

Meanwhile, the executive committee of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will meet on May 19 (Monday) at the Air Headquarters in Chaklala, Rawalpindi.

Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, President of the (PSF), will preside over the meeting in which all the top officials of the federation will take part.

The main point on the agenda of the meeting is the selection and training of the national team for the 2003 World Team Squash Championships to be held in Vienna (Austria) in October.

The executive committee will decide about the dates and venues of the trials and the training camp, which will be organized to prepare the team for the World Championships.

Pakistan has won the world team title on six occasions but have failed to do well in the biennial tournament in recent years.

In the previous edition of the championship held in Melbourne (Australia) in 2001, they finished a poor 11th position.—PPI
