Patwari held for taking bribe

SAHIWAL, May 17: The local Anti-Corruption Establishment on Saturday caught red-handed a revenue patwari while taking illegal gratification.

Patwari Tariq Mumtaz had demanded bribe from farmer Afzal Jat for the transfer of his agriculture land. He reported the matter to the ACE the team of which led by judicial magistrate Rana Nasrullah arrested patwari Mumtaz red-handed.

The police have sent him to jail after registering a case against him.

GUNNY BAGS: The local Food department has so far purchased 1.5 million gunny bags of 100 kg from purchase centres as against the target of two million.

Traders from Karachi and Peshawar have purchased 1.1 million gunny bags out of them.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, a spokesman of the Food department said the remaining target of about 25 per cent seemed difficult to achieve.

HARD JAIL: A local court on Saturday handed down seven-year hard jail and fined Rs50,000 to a kidnapper.

The accused will have to undergo additional six-month rigorous imprisonment if he defaults in the payment of fine.

The judge declared Zafar Iqbal and Ghulam Muhammad POs while Sabir and Safia were acquitted for lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, Allah Bukhsh, Zafar Iqbal, Ghulam Muhammad, Sabir and Safia had kidnapped Faizan from Baba Karamshah mazar, Yousafwala, on Dec 20, 2000.

Yousafwala police had registered a hudood case against the accused.
