PESHAWAR, May 17: The Malakand district development committee, in its meeting on Saturday discussed 58 development schemes to be carried out during the current fiscal year.

District Coordinating Officer Shah Wali Khan presided over the meeting.

The schemes would be sponsored by the district government, while the works and services department and Peshawar Electricity Supply Company would be responsible for their execution, operation and maintenance, the meeting was informed.

The committee was told that the schemes would be completed in two months to improve the pedestrian paths, traffic flow, general hygiene, sanitation and electricity supply.

It was told that the schemes would help provide a clean environment and safe disposal of garbage and rainwater besides providing power supply to the far-off areas.

The committee approved a majority of the schemes for pavement of streets and drains, construction of protection walls and embankments, water supply and link roads.

The meeting approved 17 schemes of electricity supply, including extension of low tension lines and installation of transformers. The estimated cost of the power supply schemes was fixed and Pesco officials were asked to follow the structure laid down by the district government.—APP
