SARGODHA, May 16: A police constable and a proclaimed offender were injured in an exchange of fire near Chak 45-SB, about 60 kilometres from here, on Friday morning.

Reports said SHO Ata Shaheed, on a tip-off, raided the hideout of Zahid and Akbar alias Hathi. The accused opened fire at the police who responded immediately. In the shootout that followed, constable Ali Akbar and PO Zahid were wounded.

However, the police claimed that the accused had tried to shoot himself. The two accused had plundered cash and valuables many times and raped a number of girls, the police alleged.

Meanwhile, the district police officer has announced cash awards for the officials of the raiding team.

DCO: The civil defence organization should be prepared to defend the country’s frontiers, District Coordination Officer Zulfiqar Ali Toor stressed on Friday.

Speaking at the organization’s meeting, he lauded the volunteers’ efforts during difficult times.

He directed the officials concerned to repair all the civil defence posts.

He also stressed the need for the special training of the civil defence volunteers.
