FAISALABAD, May 16: Two alleged robbers were killed in an encounter with police in Chak 610-GB when they were fleeing after a robbery in which a man was killed on Friday.
According to police, five masked men forced their entry into the house of Abdul Sattar in Chak 617-GB. They collected gold and other valuables worth thousands of rupees. Sattar put up resistance and tried to overpower one of the bandits. His accomplices shot and killed Sattar.
His neighbours immediately informed the police about the incident which rushed to the spot and started combing the area. Teams of Tandlianwala and Mamukanjan police stations also joined the operation and started tracing the outlaws. The Garah police team intercepted the bandits in Chak 610-GB. The robbers opened fire on the police party which was retaliated. During a couple of hours long encounter, police shot dead two of the robbers while the other three made good their escape.
The police seized a Kalashnikov and a pistol lying near the dead outlaws. Police are still in search of the other three bandits.
Later, DPO Zafar Abbas Luk told this scribe by telephone that the dead robbers have been identified as Aslam and Maalik.
He said they escaped from the custody of Sheikhupura police. They were wanted in a number of cases of heinous crimes by Okara, Sheikhupura, Lahore and Faisalabad police, he added.
