KARACHI: Rangers maintaining peace on campuses: DG
KARACHI, May 16: The director-general of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, has said if the situation prevailing on the campuses did not warrant presence of the Rangers in universities, they would not have been there.
Speaking on the role of the Rangers in maintaining peace in universities on Friday at Sindh Madressatul Islam, DG Maj-Gen Salahuddin said it was the duty of the force to maintain law and order in Sindh and ensure security to students, teachers, buildings of the universities, for which no additional amount was paid to the Rangers personnel.
“It is unfortunate that the Rangers were called in universities and colleges to maintain the law and order situation. It should not have happen, but the situation was worst, and there was no other force than the rangers to restore law and order in the educational institutions,” he said.
He said equal representation had been given to the people of Sindh’s rural and urban areas in the Rangers. The Rangers personnel performed a 24-hour duty and served for a pay less than that of police force.
He said the Rangers provided security to the foreign missions, consulates, their other buildings and foreign companies in Sindh. For the last four or five years, the water tanker service had also been handed over to it.
The Rangers also run 15 free medical camps in Karachi and had established schools in Mithi and Nawabshah, he said.
Maj-Gen Salahuddin announced Rs500,000 as a donation for Sindh Madressatul Islam. “This donation is for the great institute which has remained an alma mater of the father of the nation,” the DG rangers Sindh maintained.
Sindh Madressah’s Principal Muhammad Ali Shaikh in his address of welcome highlighted the role of Sindh Madressah in producing great personalities of the country.—APP
