KARACHI, May 16: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad has directed the concerned authorities to take comprehensive measures for improvement in health sector.

The governor gave these directions in the light of his visits to various hospitals and the feedback received from different public sources at a meeting with senior officers of the health department at the Governor House here Thursday.

The governor asked the officials to ensure cleanliness at health centres and other facilities, and take precautionary steps and create an awareness against various diseases, particularly SARS, which is spreading in other countries of the region.

He also underlined the need for taking precautionary steps at the community level.

Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad directed to set up special cell at the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases and ordered the immediate release of Rs 15 million to the Sindh health department to procure necessary equipment and facilities at the institute.

He asked for seeking cooperation from print and electronic media, NGOs and other sources to make this campaign a success.

The governor underlined the need for provision of basic facilities at other hospitals. He also asked to seek cooperation of private sector organizations which are involved in extending healthcare and promoting an awareness against various diseases.

The governor said that he would be making surprise visits to various hospitals and health facilities, and warned of strict action against those who are negligent and inefficient in their duties.

The Advisor on Health Nauman Sehgel, Advisor on Home Affairs Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Principal Secretary Akhtar Zamin, Secretary Health Ashiq Hussain Memon, Director, Ojha Institute Dr Ashraf Sadiq, Additional Secretary Dr Munawar Alam and other senior officers attended the meeting.—APP
