Road closure creates shortage of commodities

By Our Correspondent

CHITRAL, May 14: The closure of Shandur road for the last two months has led to the shortage of essential commodities in the Laspur area adjacent to Gilgit.

The tourism industry has also been badly hit by the absence of transport facility to the area.

Laspur Union Council Nazim Mohammad Sulaiman Asif, in a press statement on Tuesday, said that the National Highway Authority and Frontier Works Organization had adopted indifferent attitude towards the problem.

He said work had been stopped on the Gahkoch (Gilgit) to Mastuj (Chitral) section of the road for no reason, which was creating problems for the 12,000 residents of the union council.

He demanded of the FWO authorities to open the road forthwith.
