ISLAMABAD, May 13: The members of the Pakistan hockey team that won last March’s Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament in Ipoh, Malaysia are to call on President Gen Pervez Musharraf on May 21 in Islamabad.

It is expected that the players and officials who accompanied the team are to be given cash awards for winning a title for Pakistan after a long barren run.

Musharraf has regularly invited sportsmen over to the presidency including the cricketers and boxers.

Himself a keen sportsman, the president only last week had called on the sports federations to spend money on sportsmen and produce good athletes.

He announced that he would himself go to Lyari to give away a cash award to boxer Mehrullah for winning Pakistan’s only gold medal at last year’s Asian Games in Busan.
