BCCI wants to play one-dayer in Pakistan
NEW DELHI, May 13: India’s cricket board has asked their government to allow the national team to play a one-day game in Pakistan in September, ending the freeze in bilateral matches between the two neighbours.
“Our proposal is to have a one-day match between India and Pakistan in Pakistan sometime in the third or fourth week of September, followed by a one-day match in India shortly thereafter,” India’s cricket chief, Jagmohan Dalmiya, said in a letter to federal sports minister Vikram Verma.
The Indian government, which banned bilateral matches with Pakistan in 2000 because of tensions over the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, had said last week that cricket ties would not be resumed until diplomatic and cultural relations improved.
India announced restoration of full diplomatic ties with Pakistan this month and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appealed to the government to agree “in principle” to a Test tour of Pakistan in February next year.
The two teams have not met in a full series since 1999 and India called off its Test tour of Pakistan last month after the government refused to review its ban.—Reuters
