Irrigation employees hold demo

SANGHAR, May 13: Over 200 employees of the irrigation department, Nara circle, on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the manager of a local landlord.

The employees gathered outside the Bakhoro sub-division office and later proceeded to the press club.

They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the manager, Gulsher Rind.

The protesters also blocked the Sanghar-Mirpurkhas Road.

Speaking on the occasion, the president, Darogha Beldar Association, Nara circle, Taj Mohammad Mahar, Abdul Nabi Bozdar and others said henchmen of the landlord, Khair Mohammad Junejo, attacked the Darogha of the Nara Canal, Jumo Rajar, and two Beldars, injuring them, after the Darogha closed an illegal watercourse at RD-72,

They said the injured were admitted to the civil hospital.

The protesters threatened that they would not perform their duties till the arrest of the attackers.

The employees also staged a demonstration in front of offices of the DCO and the DPO.

When contacted, a manager of the landlord said the watercourse that was closed had been operating for the 10 years.

He said Gulsher Rind was the chairman of the Farmers Organization. He said the employees were protesting against him as he had tried to eliminate corruption in the department.
