NAWABSHAH, May 13: The growers of Jamal Shah Minor held a protest demonstration and observed a token hunger strike against the irrigation officials opposite the Nawabshah Press Club on Tuesday.
They were led by Syed Budhal Shah, a grower.
The protesters carrying banners and placards raised slogans against the irrigation officials.
They said that there was no water due to artificial shortage and their lands were turning barren.
They said that the government had not taken any legal action against the irrigation officials, including the executive engineer, Dad division, who were selling water.
MNA Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah joined the protest saying that he was also a grower of Jamal Shah Minor.
He warned that if water was not provided to them within five days, all growers including himself would observe a sit-in on the National Highway.
DEMO: The growers of Amarji Branch, Nusrat irrigation division, held a protest demonstration in Bandhi town on Tuesday against the irrigation officials for selling water.
The protesters carrying placards raised slogans against the irrigation officials.
They said that the irrigation officials including the executive engineer were selling water to influential landlords.
They demanded that the chief secretary and irrigation secretary take legal action against the officials concerned and solve their problems.
WATER SHORTAGE: The residents of union council No6, including school children, held a protest demonstration and burnt tyres outside the Taluka Municipal Office on Tuesday against the shortage of drinking water.
The residents of Taj Colony, Kamata Colony and Golimar, led by Syed Iftikhar Shah, told newsmen that the Taluka Municipal Office was selling water to the ice factories.
They demanded that the district Nazim and the DCO immediately solve their problems and provide them water.
