HYDERABAD: Need stressed to bridge urban, rural gap

HYDERABAD, May 13: Former federal minister for information Javed Jabbar has stressed the need for bridging the gap between rural and urban areas.
Delivering his keynote speech at the concluding session of an “Interactive Dialogue on Development Communication” on Tuesday, Mr Jabbar said not only rural areas but many parts of urban areas also lacked development.
He hailed organizations engaged in development activities in remote areas.
He said it was the right of the people to be imparted information on subjects of their interest and the media should play their role in this regard.
The former senator said the University of Sindh should also obtain a licence for establishing Radio channels like the Peshawar University and the University of Punjab.
He appreciated the efforts of the Sindh University in promotion of higher education and establishing the Center of Rural Development Communication (CRDC).
In his presidential speech, Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said financial assistance would be provided to the CRDC.
The former chairman, mass communication department, University of Punjab, Dr Miskeen Ali Hijazi, said the CRDC should prepare its prospectus and send it to national and international organizations for providing services in development communication and also offer its services.
RECOMMENDATIONS: The participants of the two-day dialogue assigned three groups to discuss and prepare recommendations.
The groups proposed that experts of development communication should assist federal and provincial governments while they were planning development schemes.
They said the CRDC should make efforts to provide modern facilities to rural areas. It was also suggested that the CRDC should start training programmes.
The groups of experts emphasized the need for organizing seminars on development communication.
ADMISSION: The director, Admissions, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, here on Tuesday cancelled the admissions of four students for producing bogus documents.
He has notified that Anwar Husain, son of Mohammad Suleman of BBA (Hons) part-I; Kiran Naseer, daughter of Naseer Khan Rajput of B.Com (Hons) part-I; Noor Mohammad, son of Raza Mohammad Keerio of BA (Hons) part-I English; and Jahangir Arif Bajwa, son of Arif Hussain Bajwa of BSW Engineering part-I had produced fake documents as certified by the certificate issuing authorities.
