KARACHI: SNF decides to withdraw poll petitions

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 13: The Sindh National Front (SNF) has decided to withdraw all the election petitions filed by its candidates.

Ameer Buksh Bhutto, member of the executive committee of the SNF, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, said: “The party does not want to be part of the mess that has been created in the Sindh Assembly.”

Mr Bhutto said: “I have, therefore, instructed my attorney to withdraw my petition from the election tribunal as I have no desire to sit in this assembly and be held responsible for betraying the people of Sindh.

“However, we will continue to fight the case for Sindh and take our message directly to the people, who are the source of all powers in democracy.”

He said: “I filed an election petition after the Oct 2002 general elections because the result in my constituency was procured through mass rigging. It was evident to me from the very beginning that the whole process was tilted in favour of the PPP.

“Delimitation of constituencies, location of polling stations and posting of the polling officers were done on the instructions of my opponent who belongs to the PPP.

“He also used the influence of the union council, taluka and district Nazims as well as Ushr and Zakat funds to buy votes. All this compelled me to file the election petition.”
