SAHIWAL, May 12: A robber was shot dead while an ASI injured when a gang opened fire at the policeman here on Monday.

Reports said a highwaymen’s gang was plundering cash from commuters when Pakpattan police ASI Zulfiqar Baloch, who was passing by the area on his motorcycle (SLE-9431), stopped there. After a brief scuffle, the ASI overpowered one of the gangsters while rest of his colleagues opened fire. The robber was killed while the ASI was hurt. He was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

The gangsters escaped with Rs15,000 booty.

KIDNAPPED: Five people, including a couple and its son, were kidnapped in various parts of the district on Sunday.

According to reports, a couple and its minor son Ehrar were kidnapped by accused Ghulam Rasool, Rashid and their accomplices.

At Chak 171/9-L, a woman and her minor son Tanveer were kidnapped by Muhammad Nawaz and his accomplices over what seems to be an enmity.

Police have registered cases under sections 363, 380 and 365 PPC with no arrest so far.
