HYDERABAD, May 12: A large number of employees of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, boycotted their duties, staged a sit-in outside the university administration block and took to the streets on Monday.
They were protesting against what they called anti-education and anti-employees polices of the university vice-chancellor and demanding removal of retired officials.
The university administration had deployed a heavy contingent of the police at the campus, especially at the administration block.
The call for the strike was given by the university’s Employees Action Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the committee, Syed Abdul Majeed Shah, said the retired officials were being paid millions of rupees.
The rally resolved that five university employees would stage token hunger strikes daily.
Sources told Dawn that leaders of the action committee who had held press conference against the vice- chancellor on May 8 had been issued show-cause notices.
MUET STUDENTS: A large number of students of first year (civil), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), boycotted their examinations alleging that their paper was out of course and held a sit-in outside the vice chancellor’s office on Monday.
Later, they held a sit-in on the Super Highway and a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club.
Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation, Asif Memon, Razzaq Jamali and Badaruddin Junejo alleged that their paper was out of course.
They said that despite protesting the university administration had refused to listen to them.
They demanded that the students of first year should be re-examined in the civil paper.
