HYDERABAD, May 11: The central committee of the Sindh Hari Committee at a meeting held here on Sunday demanded that the layout of the Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) should be changed to save thousands of acres of agricultural land of Dadu district.
The senior vice president of the committee, Mohammad Hussain Leghari, presided over the meeting.
It also demanded that the on-going work on the greater Thal canal should be stopped forthwith and Sindh province should be given its due share of water.
The meeting demanded that 426 permanent employees of the Faran Sugar Mills, Shaikh Birkhiyo, who were dismissed from service, should be reinstated.
In another resolution, it demanded that water should be released in the tail-end channels of the Nasir division, namely Khatchar and Zunr minor.
HUNGER STRIKE: The food grain godown workers, under the banner of the Food Department Employees Federation, on Sunday observed token hunger strike outside the press club to press for the acceptance of their demands.
Talking to newsmen, the union leaders, including Ghulam Shabbir and Ghulam Ali, said that the chowkidars of the food grain godowns with 10 to 12 years’ service were not being regularized although 70 posts were lying vacant.
They demanded that the retrenched workers should be reinstated in service and deduction from their salaries on false charges of being absent should be stopped forthwith.
They complained that they were not being granted emergency leave nor had they been issued uniforms for the last six years.
They said that this was the reason why the godown chowkidars had held hunger strike throughout Sindh.
They warned that if there genuine problems were not resolved within three days, they would be forced to suspend wheat supply and the responsibility for the consequences would rest with the food department.
