Juniors to play series of matches from May 16


KARACHI, May 10: Pakistan junior back-up hockey camp probables will play a series of matches against each other at Defence Stadium from May 16 to 18 as part of Global Youth Hockey Marathon.

Pakistan Junior team manager Col (Retd) Abdul Rauf told reporters on Saturday that May 17-18 will be celebrated as

Global Youth Hockey Marathon in various cities of the world as part of International Hockey Federations (FIH) plan to popularise hockey among the youth and for its development of youth projects.

Four combinations named after great late Olympians like Dr Ghulam Rasool, Habib-ur-Rehman, Habib Ali Kiddie and Qazi Mohib-ur-Rehman were formed to mark the occasion.

He said selectors headed by former Olympian Hasan Sardar after second round of trials at Pakistan Steel Township Astro Turf short-listed the probables from 89 to 67 from which four teams were formed.

These boys will play each other on league basis. He said selectors will watch the boys in action in those matches and on the basis of performance 15 to 20 boys will be picked in the national junior camp being held at Steel Township from June 8 in preparation for the tour of Spain and Poland.

Following 67 were short-listed after trials:

GOALKEEPERS:

RIGHT-FULL BACKS:

Ali Akbar (Pak Army),Ather Hussain (Sindh), M. Javeed(Pak Army) , Kashif Ali (Vehari), M. Imtaiz Ahmed (PTCL), Majeed Khan (NBP).

LEFT-FULL BACKS:
