Juventus clinch record 27th title

TURIN, Italy, May 10: Juventus won the Italian title for the second straight year on Saturday, a 2-2 draw against Perugia at the Delle Alpi stadium securing their 27th ‘scudetto’ with two games of the season remaining.

Second-placed Inter Milan drew 1-1 at home to Parma, leaving them eight points adrift of Juventus.

An injury-time equaliser by Perugia’s Fabio Grosso slightly took the gloss off the occasion after Marco Di Vaio had put Juventus 2-1 up a minute into the second half.

Perugia striker Fabrizio Miccoli, on loan from Juve, had cancelled out David Trezeguet’s 25th-minute opener from the penalty spot.

With one eye on Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final, second leg against Real Madrid, Juventus coach Marcello Lippi started with several key players, including Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved, on the substitutes’ bench.

AC Milan, who face Inter in the return game of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, also fielded a weakened side as they lost 1-0 at Brescia.—Reuters
