KARACHI: Nadra plans delivery centre

KARACHI, May 10: The National Database Registration Authority will open a central delivery centre to ensure fast delivery of computerized national identity cards in Karachi.

This was stated by the chairman Nadra Saleem Ahmed Moeen while talking to newsmen after the inauguration of its “swift registration centre” in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday. Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mehar performed the inauguration of the centre.

He said that this centre will be opened within one month at a central location to facilitate people of all the five districts of the city.

“This centre will have more than 20 counters to handle the rush and facilitate people to get their cards at a central place”, Moeen said.

He said this decision has been taken after receiving scores of complaints for the loss and non-delivery of cards by the Pakistan Post Office.

He said that the Post Office had provided support to Nadra in the delivery of computerized cards in the early days, but now there are scores of complaints from the general public for non-delivery and loss of cards.

About the complaints of loss of data of the applicants, he said that the swift centres would remove all complaints in this regard.

He pointed out that Nadra had plans to open about 200 swift centres all over Pakistan in 112 districts.

“So far, we have opened 70 swift centres in the country and another 80 such centres would be added to the existing network by the end of June 2003.”

He said that six swift centres are now working in Karachi while three more would be added to this network.

The Nadra chief said that about 28.3 million computerized cards have been issued, so far, with a margin of error of 0.9 per cent. This is the best possible system anywhere in the world, he added.

He said that very soon Karachiites would have access to Nadra’s universal number of 111-786-100 to find out the state of their computerized cards.

Other cities like, Lahore, Multan, Quetta will also have this universal number facility which is presently being enjoyed by people in Sargodha and Peshawar.—APP
