QUETTA, May 10: City and town Nazims have demanded fresh census in the provincial metropolis for proper allocation of funds.
The City, Zargoon and Chiltan town Nazims, speaking at Hal-o-Ahwal programme held at the press club claimed that according to a rough estimate the population of the city was around two million but the financial grant was being provided on the basis of 600,000 people.
They pointed out that 1998 census in Quetta and some other areas of the province was not conducted due to some reasons and demanded holding of the enumeration so that the city government could get its just share in the allocation of funds.
The Nazims held the bureaucracy responsible for creating obstacles in running the new system.
They further argued that the second important issue was the financial constraints and non-availability of funds with the Nazims causing delay in provision of civic facilities to the citizens.
The Nazims stated that the potable water problem of the people in the city would be resolved in view of the Rs8 billion sanctioned amount by President Gen Pervez Musharraf and maintained that the sum would be received in phases.
