KARACHI, May 10: The charged parking system enforced by the city government and major hotels as well as managements of amusement parks to “mint extra money easily” at the cost of motorists’ convenience should be done away with.

The demand was made by the office-bearers of Car Drivers’ Association while talking to newsmen at the press club here.

They contended that car-owners and drivers should not be punished for the faults of builders or owners of plazas. They argued that it was the responsibility of the relevant government departments not to approve the building plans of the plazas having hundreds of shops and offices but a little space for car parking not even sufficient to accommodate a dozen vehicles in congested commercial areas like Saddar.

They regretted that the city government was bent upon charging fee for parking along all the roads of the metropolis even in the areas where no rush was observed.

They suggested that if the city government wanted to charge parking fee, it should provide separate parking shades in plazas and ensure safety of the parked vehicles.

President of the Association Attiqur Rehman Shaikh said that charging fee for the vehicles parked along roadside had no justification.

He pointed out that managements of major hotels had started denying parking facility to visitor besides charging an exorbitantly high fee to let others park their vehicles a very limited space in the parking lots.—APP
