JHANG, May 9: At least 24 people were killed in a head-on collision between a coach and an oil tanker on the Jhang-Shorkot road, some 10 kilometres from Shorkot city, on Friday morning.

The coach (PC-155), proceeding to Bahawalpur from Islamabad, collided head-on with a Multan-bound oil tanker (BUB-1692) coming from Sargodha.

Twenty people died on the spot while 20 others received injuries.

The injured were taken to the THQ hospital, Shorkot, where four more people died. The condition of four other people is reported to be serious.

Drivers of both the vehicles were also killed in the accident, which took place at the Sadhaywali Pul, a spot where several road accidents have occurred in the past.

Representatives of the Tehsil Administration reached the site of the crash and started relief operation.

Fourteen people who died in the accident have been identified as Suhail Illahi, Muhammad Saeed and Muhammad Ramazan, Bahawalpur; Muhammad Yasir, Islamabad; Fakhar Iqbal, Rawalpindi; Abdur Razzaq, Jhelum; Mahboob Khan, Haripur; Muhammad Hussain and Ashfaq Manzoor, Multan; Saifullah and Kifayat Ali, Taxila; Abdur Aziz, Chichawatni; Muhammad Ramazan, Gujjar Khan; and Akbari Begum, Shorkot City.

Ten victims could not be identified, the Shorkot Police said.—APP
