The day President saved a life
ISLAMABAD, May 9: For President Gen Pervez Musharraf, coming to the Islamabad Club on Friday brought back nostalgic memories as he described how he had saved the life of a man in the swimming pool years ago.
“I was standing by the club pool when I saw a man swimming somewhat awkwardly at the other end when I realised that he was drowning. I jumped in and saved his life at the cost of a wet wallet and clothes.”
“But his family were relieved and praised my effort,” Musharraf told the audience after inaugurating the squash courts at the club premises.
The courts, where Musharraf once used to play, have been refurbished at a cost of Rs 6.5 million and this was made possible because of a helping hand extended by Shell Pakistan Limited that put in Rs 3 million for the complex that comprises five courts.
“Pakistan has a great tradition in squash and we must endeavour to regain our lost glory, these courts are an effort in that direction.”
Tariq Aziz the club’s administrator said that they had begun to upgrade their facilities in a big way and disclosed that the UAE government had consented to build a covered swimming pool and a gymnasium for them.
