Gepco to set up 50-bed hospital

GUJRANWALA, May 9: The local electricity power company will set up a 50-bed hospital for its employees here, according to Gepco Chief Executive Brig Saifullah Khalid.

Speaking to the employees’ forum at the regional headquarters on Friday, he pledged that the hospital would be equipped with modern machinery. Besides, he said, there would be no paucity of medicines.

He said new recruitments in the company would be made on merit. As many as 975 Gepco employees (line superintendents to bill distributors) had been promoted in accordance with their seniority list within a year, he said. He added that 251 cases of move-over and selection grades had also been disposed of.

The Gepco chief said cases of medical claims and pension of the employees were being reviewed to provide them relief.

TRAFFIC RULES: The National Highway and Motorway Police on Friday arranged second phase of lectures on traffic rules for army officers and crew at Gujranwala army driving school, Cantonment.

A department spokesman told newsmen that General Officer Commanding Maj-Gen Muhammad Yousaf visited the school and reviewed the lectures.

He appreciated the lectures delivered by the police team, hoping that these would help create driving sense among the participants on the national highway and motorway. He said another lecture should be arranged at Cantonment for the army officers.

SSP Shariq Jamal informed the army officers about improvement in traffic discipline on national highway from Kharian to Shahdara. He also claimed that incidents of robberies on the highway had been reduced by the agency of day and night patrolling by the motorway police.

SUSPENDED: Two SHOs were suspended from service by police authorities on the charge of dereliction of duty and issued them show-cause notice here on Friday.

Wazirabad SHO Muhammad Shahid was suspended by DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal while Satellite Town SHO Farooq Bhutta by DPO Saud Aziz.

CRUSHED: A minor boy was crushed to death by a speeding car on Sheikhupura Road here on Friday.

Sikander Gul (3) was on his way along with his mother when the car (LXW-9946) knocked him down. He died on the spot.

Police have registered a case against the car driver.
