GUJRANWALA, May 9: Two brothers drowned when their maternal grandfather threw them as well as their mother and a sister into the Fatehpur Canal in Alipur Chattha on Friday. Police arrested the accused later in the day.

Sources said Nazia Bibi, mother of the children, was the daughter of Faiz Ahmad of Shaheenabad and had been residing with her parents since the death of her husband Tariq Ramzan of Gandapur Alipur Chattha a year ago.

The accused allegedly raped her. She lodged a complaint with the Satellite Town police. The police took him into custody. However, she forgave him when people of the area assured her that her father was ashamed of his act. He was released a week ago.

The deceased were identified as Arsalan (8) and Zeeshan (6). Nazia and three-year-old Sana got entangled in a bush on the bank of canal and were rescued by passers-by.

The Alipur Chattha police have registered a case against the accused on the complaint of Nazia.

The bodies had not been recovered till the filing of this report. The Wazirabad ASP said divers had been hired for the purpose.

HOSTAGE: A Wapda SDO and other checking staff were made hostages on Friday by two industrialists for severing the power connections of their factories in Aroop village.

The Aroop SDO was checking industrial meters along with his staff near Vinia Kor on the Sialkot Road. He severed the connections of two industrialists Muhammad Boota and Muhammad Arif for power theft. But they attacked the SDO and his staff with the help of workers and made them hostages in their factories. The matter was reported to police who rushed to the spot and got them released.

Police have registered a case against the industrialists and are investigating.
