PESHAWAR, May 9: The lawyers here on Friday vowed to fully participate in the countrywide struggle against the LFO, terming it an illegal act of a military ruler aimed at prolonging his rule.

Speaking at a meeting they also criticized enhancement in retirement age of superior courts judges. They termed the act a bribe by the military ruler.

The meeting was addressed by Qazi Muhammad Anwer, president of the PDBA, Wakeel Zaman Khattak, general secretary, Naeem Jan Malik, former president of the High Court Bar Association, Asadaullah Chamkani, former president of the PDBA and others.

The speakers said the LFO should be revoked forthwith. They said the National Security Council was aimed at undermining the superiority and independence of parliament.

They said Gen Musharraf had no right to rule the country. They pointed out that there is a set procedure in the Constitution to elect the president and Gen Musharraf had violated those provisions.

The speakers warned that if the army continued to act in this manner then the fate of Pakistan would not be different than that of Iraq.
