The source said the government had received complaints from farmers that they were not being supplied gunny bags in required number by the Food department. Besides, they alleged that commission agents and flour mills were purchasing their wheat at less than the official price of Rs300 per 40kg.
At this, the Punjab government had decided that special judicial magistrates would be inducted to monitor the wheat procurement process in the province, he said.
The Punjab government has already enhanced the wheat procurement target, and for this purpose the Food ministry has been directed to arrange more godowns throughout the province.
