KARACHI: Skeletons stolen from Chawkandi graveyard

KARACHI, May 8: The Naib Nazim Bin Qasim Town has directed the officials to probe into the incident of theft of human skeletons from the historical Chawkandi graveyard.

The centuries old graveyard of Chawkandi situated on the National Highway has seen thieves in the past whisking away precious carved stones from the graves. Very few incidents, however, of human bones being stolen have been reported. The graveyard is a popular site visited by local and foreign tourists.

The locals have demanded strict security arrangements for their ancestors’ burial place so that the graves of their forefathers are not desecrated. They blame the department concerned of being involved in the crime.

Naib Nazim Bin Qasim Town, Tariq Aziz Blauch and TPO and SSP Kamran Fazal have assured people that those involved will soon be arrested, and a boundary wall will be built around the graveyard.—PPI
