KARACHI, May 7: A splendid all-round performance by Jaffar Qureshi enabled KESC notch up their straight fourth win to emerge as group champions in the 12th HinoPak KCCA inter-firm cricket league on Tuesday.
Left-handed all-rounder Jaffar blasted 68 with the aid of six sixes and four fours and then captured four for 39 as KESC outclassed SSGC by 101 runs at AKG Ground.
Batting first, KESC made 242 in 39.1 overs. Besides Jaffar other notable scorers were Shahid Dawood (51) and Shahid Latif (46).
Medium-pacer Ashar Ghafoor took five for 57.
SSGC, in reply, were sent packing for 141 in 33 overs with Mohammad Zafar scoring 52.
Young fast bowler Owais Athar started the rout with two early wickets before Jaffar and off-spinner Irfanuddin moped up the rest of SSGC’s batting. Irfan took three for 31.
Meanwhile, DHA registered an easy 84-run victory over UBL Karachi at UBL Sports Complex. For the winners, Abid Hanif, Saqib Zia and Muzzafar Hussain excelled. Abid hammered 94 with eight boundaries and Saqib hit 58 to help DHA reach 267 for seven in 40 overs.
Muzaffar, who bowls leg-spin, then claimed five for 68 as UBL were restricted to 183 for nine.
