LAHORE, May 6: Ashfaq and Nawazish contributed 30 and 25 points, respectively to help Army beat Habib Bank Ltd (HBL) 88-74 in the super  league of the 43rd national basketball championship at the Railways Stadium on Monday night.

Army surged 65-54 ahead in the first session of play. Maintaining their lead, the soldiers won by a convincing margin.

Besides Nawazish and Ashfaq, another double figure scorer for the winners was Mir Alam who contributed 13 points to help his team earn its second consecutive win in the super league stage.

For the bankers, who lost to Navy in the opener, Falik Farid (19), Mehmood Ahmad (18), Muhammad Azam (16) and Zahid (13) fought well.

Wapda defeated Navy 70-62. Fresh from a win against Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Wapda led the first half 59-49.

International Jehangir with 20 points and Amir with 16 were the main architect of the win. Adeel and Prem Shahzad also contributed nine points each.

For Navy, Umar (14), Nasar (12) and Mustafa (10) all touched the double figures.

Railways earned their first win in the super league when they defeated PAF by a good margin of 68-51. Railways were ahead 36-26 at the half time.

Liaqat and Allah Bukhsh scored 24 and 19 points, respectively and played a key role for the win of Railways. Azhar (11) also touched the double figures.
