By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 6: Environmental resources make a significant contribution to the country’s economy and growth is not possible without conservation of environment.

This was stated by Planning Commission deputy chairman Dr Amjad Shahid Chaudhry while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day workshop on integrating environmental considerations into economic policy-making processes.

Organized jointly by the planning and development division and the national environmental action plan support programme (NEAP-SP) with financial assistance of UN Economic and Social Commission on Asia-Pacific (UNESCAP), the workshop is being attended by 70 participants from the government, as private sector, academia and NGOs.

Dr Chaudhry stressed the need of an effective monitoring and enforcement mechanism to ensure proper implementation of environmental laws and standards.
